Louise is home to Hoover Lee and his world famous grilling sauce. William "Willie" Sklar served as alderman and later mayor for 3 terms. Sklar was a Jewish immigrant who came to Louise in search for the American Dream. Houston J. Antwine (born April 11, 1939 in Louise, Mississippi) is a former college and professional American football player from Southern Illinois University. He was drafted by the American Football League's Houston Oilers, then traded to the Boston Patriots in 1961. He is in the Southern Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame. A former NAIA wrestling champion, as a defensive tackle, the stocky "Twine" was nearly impossible to move out of the middle.
Louise is mostly an agriculture community due in part it has some of the best farming land off of Silver Creek. One of the biggest farms is Seward & Son Planting Co.

Legend has it that moonshine runners would take bootleged liquor in oak kasks and would hide it in old 5 mile lake. Panther Swamp Raceway is located just outside of town along with the famous Shake on The Lake.
